A number of residents have been in touch with me to confirm whether or not the email they were sent yesterday from the Electoral Services Team at the Council was genuine or was a scam, there was also an issue with the details not being accepted yesterday. Just to confirm not every household was sent one of these emails so you may not have received one.
I checked with Electoral Services and this is the response I received confirming that everything is OK for you to respond. I have checked it myself and it has worked:
"Hi Cllr Anderson
I can confirm the email is genuine and not a scam.
Emailing is one of the new ways the Electoral Registration Officer is able to contact individuals, introduced in 2020. We have used this method over the past couple of years, but in small quantities, to test the functionality and gauge the success of contacting people in this way. This year we have emailed approximately 150,000 electors.
By carrying out this short email canvass before we produce data for forms we can reduce printing and postage costs, as those people who respond will not need a household letter or form sending to them.
Please be reassured that responding to the email is secure."
