I have received a number of requests for a formalised pedestrian crossing near Hall Rise, to enable people to cross Leeds Road. After chasing this up for a long time, I have finally received a response from the Highways Engineer, which may be of interest to you:
"Dear Cllr Anderson,
Please accept my apologies for the time taken to respond to this query, I appreciate the timescales are unacceptable, particularly as the on site assessment was undertaken shortly after my last email to you on the subject.
Please find attached the Pedestrian Crossing Assessment that I undertook on site 9 November 2021.
In summary, the assessment and surveys do not support the introduction of a formal pedestrian crossing facility. This is primarily due to the low number of pedestrians crossing per day, which has not allowed the overall score to be increased to such a level that would support such an introduction.
My conclusion at the time was that the islands should be widened to make them a better facility for pedestrians and particularly those with pushchairs or mobility aids and that we should push for this improvement being sought as part of the Bramhope Primary School expansion, should that have gone ahead. As we are all aware, that project is proceeding and we have a project to take forward the widening of this island and the one closer to Church Hill, with necessary footway works to make the islands accessible as well. This scheme is currently in its design stage."
