Please find below an update in respect of the work that will be carried out as a result of the school expansion. You will note they are looking for my opinions at this stage but I always believe in consulting with residents before I forward my views. If you have any thoughts or comments you want me to reflect back on your behalf please let me know as it is important the Council get it right first time rather than going through a number of iterations.
I have raised a number of concerns about the planning application with Highways that residents raised with me:
"Dear Councillor,
I am writing to make you aware and consult with you on scheme proposals that are currently being prepared for Breary Lane, to introduce various road safety features to enhance the area.
These proposals have been formed due to concerns raised by local Councillors on behalf of local residents and parents of children who attend Bramhope Primary school.
The Scheme comprises of various features including the facilitation of parking restrictions, crossing points and traffic calming features to ensure the safety of those in the local area and children of Bramhope Primary school. The above features are beneficial as they help to reduce driver speeds with the implementation of extra traffic calming features also adding additional pedestrian crossings to improve user safety. Details of the proposed scheme are provided on the attached plan: 1092-LCC-01-XX-DR-TM-01-01
The works consist of:
- Kerb to kerb speed table on Breary Lane with associated informal crossing.
- Two new pedestrian refuge islands on A660 Leeds Road.
- Introduction of informal crossing points on various junctions.
- Introduction of parking restrictions to protect junctions in the area.
- Introduction of school street restrictions on Breary Rise.
At this early stage of scheme development. I am seeking feedback from yourself and other stakeholders. it would be helpful to have your views on the proposal, both positive and negative on the scheme proposals at your earliest convenience preferably by 8th July, so these can be acknowledged in the final design of the proposal and our direct consultation phase with local residents.
Once the scheme design has been finalised and costed the proposals will be reported formally to the Chief Officer and Highways and Transportation Board for approval and a formal decision to proceed with the works. The Board always consider all consultation feedback carefully before taking decisions. It is especially important that the Board has the full views of all Ward Members in terms of any issues and impacts on their wards and constituents."
